About the project

Our motivation

The ocean is one of the most important sources of life for human beings and the well-being of the planet. It provides food,
oxygen and energy, is home to many species and acts as climate regulator.

It’s protection is crucial to avoid climate change and for sustainable development, therefore to understand how we influence the ocean and how the ocean influences us is important to everyone, which is the mission of the Ocean Literacy concept.

To successfully bring this important concept to the next generation is the motivation of the “We are Blue Schools” project. Whilst the concept has been well researched and defined and an array of academic documents have been published, its implementation into schools in Europe has so far been minimal.
